I have to admit I’m very late to the podcast thing. I’ve even considered starting one myself, but I just don’t have the time for it! Worse, with a full time job that involves working with children, I can’t risk saying something that could land me in hot water. So I opt for listening to all the things I’d like to say instead. Whether you’re heading in to the office or tidying up the house over the weekend, a podcast can be a pleasant accompaniment to an otherwise mundane task. Most mornings I’m listening to my music collection but every so often, I put on a podcast. But choosing the right podcast for the right setting can feel as daunting a mission as picking the perfect movie for a date night in. That’s why I’ve compiled a list of shows I’m certain will make you laugh, think, and act as you move through your day. Each podcast differs in approach and covers a variety of topics, offering something for everyone. So turn up the sound and hit subscribe - these women have something to say!
Welcome to GUYS WE F****D: THE ANTI SLUT-SHAMING PODCAST. They spread their legs, now they're spreading the word that women should be able to have sex with WHOEVER they want WHENEVER they want and not be ashamed or called sluts or whores. Welcome to a new revolution. Each week, Corinne Fisher & Krystyna Hutchinson (together known as the comedy duo Sorry About Last Night) interview a gentleman they slept with. Some they made love to, some they had sex with a few times and some they f****d in a hotel bathroom...er, what? Corinne & Krystyna want to make the world a more sex-positive place...one candid story of intercourse at a time.
Call Your Girlfriend is a podcast for long-distance besties everywhere co-hosted by Aminatou Sow and Ann Friedman, and produced by Gina Delvac. Every week, Aminatou and Ann call each other to discuss the intricacies of pop culture and the latest in politics. Since launching in 2014, we’ve built an audience of hundreds of thousands of listeners per episode. We’re highbrow and lowbrow, fiercely opinionated, and not afraid to realtalk each other about everything from menstrual cycles and body shaming to the Cheeto in Chief and workplace drama with devastating wit. We highlight women who are agents, creators, movers, and shakers who have smart, interesting things to say. We also care deeply about the lived experiences of non-famous women who are just trying to get through the week. We’re here for every facet of women’s humanity.
Fake the Nation is all the comedy about politics without any of the politics about politics. Every week Negin Farsad and a cast of her funniest, smartest and most politically astute friends (John Fugelsang, Lizz Winstead, Sherrod Small and others) gather ‘round the political roundtable to break down the news, make you laugh, think, and deliver a gut punch to the American political system.
4. Another Round
Another Round, an award-winning podcast hosted by Heben Nigatu and Tracy Clayton, focuses on issues of race, gender, and pop culture. Brought to you by The Pod Squad, Buzzfeed’s all-women audio team, the podcast is known for covering important cultural issues and interviewing prominent authors, politicians, social justice leaders, and civil rights activists. Not-so-serious topics are covered as well, and each episode includes a lot of booze, witty jokes, and laughter. Nigatu and Clayton describe their show as “happy hour with friends you haven't met yet” and invite listeners to join them for a drink (they really are drinking) in their weekly podcast.
Reviews | “When you listen to Tracy Clayton and Heben Nigatu laugh it up on their show, Another Round, you instantly want to join in the party. They are the smartest, funniest women in the room and everyone wants to sit at their table.” - Melissa Locker, The Guardian
