5 Signs It Is Time To Visit The Dentist

Hello Lovely,

One of the most stressful things about being an adult is knowing when you or your children should visit the dentist. I can honestly say I had my first visit to the dentist this year in May after MANY years of avoiding the dentist. Going to the dentist for cleanings genuinely triggers anxiety for me. The sounds, the scraping, the pricking, the bleeding…..UGH! I can’t! I’ve tried listening to music, using stress balls, but nothing worked so I just stopped going. The main reason for my visit was breaking my permanent retainer while on holiday, so I had to get it fixed because it was stabbing me and making eating very painful. While at my orthodontist I found out that they FINALLY offer teeth cleaning services. After speaking with the dentist, I felt comfortable that she could handle my anxiety and booked the appointment. It went so well, even I was surprised! She said I should see her twice a year, and I told her, let’s not run out. Once a year is enough for me, especially because I don’t have dental insurance.

Although it is one of the most hated aspects of growing up, it’s important you visit the dentist as often as you possibly can. Whether it’s for your regular check-up or you’re experiencing pain, you need to know when to book an appointment. With that in mind, here are 5 signs it’s time to visit your dentist:

- You're Experiencing Pain

If you are experiencing pain when it comes to your teeth and your gums, you might want to consider booking yourself an appointment to see your dentist. Depending on the level of pain you’re experiencing, you need to consider how urgent your appointment needs to be. Whether you think you need to have a tooth removed or you think you need antibiotics for an infection, your dentist will be the best person to advise you.

- You Haven't Been For A Check-Up For At Least Six Months

When it comes to your dental hygiene, it’s important you’re going for a check-up every six months. Whilst it may be something you forget every now and again, a great way to ensure you have text alerts set up. Your dental practice will be able to alert you when it has been six months since your last visit, giving you the opportunity to book your next appointment. - You Have Been Injured

If you have been injured and it has affected your teeth and gums you need to visit your dentist straight away. Whilst they may not be able to help you right away, they will be able to offer you the best possible advice when it comes to recovery. If you need emergency surgery, they will be able to arrange it for you. In most cases, you will be able to receive the treatment you need on the same day.

- You're Worried About Symptoms You May Have

If you are experiencing symptoms that you haven’t experienced before, it might be worth booking an appointment. Although they may not necessarily be something to worry about, your dentist will be able to help. From bad breath to painful gums, as soon as you start experiencing unusual symptoms you should book yourself a dental appointment.
