Three Classic Wardrobe Combinations That Always Work

Hello Lovely,

My style is constantly evolving. When I was in high school, I rocked the emo look. When I transferred to college in Miami, I started wearing bright colours and made drastic changes. Because I was still trying to find what worked for me, getting dressed often became a chore. No matter how hard I tried to set clothes out from the night before, I often ended up changing my mind in the morning and doubting myself. I even documented this evolution in a Facebook album. Looking back on some of those outfits often makes me cringe, but I learned a lot from it, which really sped up my getting ready process. Getting dressed is so much easier for me now. I’m far more confident because I know what works for me. So I’m sharing three classic wardrobe combinations that always work.

Short Dress, Long Coat

I don’t get to wear long coats very often, but this past weekend, I wore it when I went out with some friends. While a short dress or skirt, especially one that's form-fitting, can feel too revealing, throwing a knee-length coat, trench, or sweater over it instantly elevates it to something that feels elegant and rich. I’ve even worn it with long skirts and it still had the same effect. I’m partial to a neutral dress with my floral duster but I’ve even done it will all neutrals.

Monochrome

You can’t go wrong by wearing the same colour in various pieces. Although I don’t wear this combination as much, it’s definitely a safe bet! Whether you choose all black, all grey, pink, white, or blue, monochrome always looks good!

Basic Blouse, Statement Skirt

I do this all the time at work! It’s easier and often looks cooler, which is why so many of my outfits use this formula. After selecting a knock-out skirt, I reach for almost any neutral top to go with it, that would have looked far less memorable had I paired it with a simple pair of trousers.

How to Build a Capsule Wardrobe for Work

THIS POST WAS INSPIRED BY LAURE AND LAURIE, AND ALL INFORMATION CAME FROM THEIR POST HERE. LIKE AN INSENSITIVE IDIOT I DIDN'T CREDIT THEM BEFORE. ONLY THE OPINIONS AND PHOTOS ARE MINE.

What Is A Capsule Wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe consists of  some of your favorite pieces and items of clothing that can be mixed and matched and also worn in many several different ways.

As pictured above, you can see how the same pieces of clothing are being used to put several different outfits together. Before I share my experience with building a capsule wardrobe, I want to share the benefits of doing so, so that you really understand the process that goes into this.

Why Build A Capsule Wardrobe

The main reason why this whole idea of building a capsule wardrobe is so appealing is all the benefits that comes with it.

Benefits :

1.) It saves time.

I don’t know for you, but for me this is gold. I’ll gravitate towards anything that will save me time in the mornings. Not having to stand in front of the closet forever trying to decide what to wear truly is a good feeling. All the stress of getting ready in the morning suddenly goes away when the clothes you need are already there waiting for you.

2.) It saves money.

Having a capsule wardrobe doesn’t only save time but it also saves money. Think about it, the amount of money you would be spending for work clothes significantly decreases because you’re not buying clothes because you think you have nothing to wear.

3.) It declutters.

For example, in this work capsule, I have outfits that will last me up to a few weeks. And these are not new clothes that I went out to buy. I went through my closet and sorted through my clothes and picked out what I thought would be good for work. In the process I also got rid of things I  know I would never wear.

How To Start on Your Capsule Wardrobe

There is no one way to  build a capsule wardrobe. You can make your own rules when it comes to this just like you’d build a regular wardrobe .

But if you have no clue where to start, let me briefly break down the process that went into creating this capsule wardrobe pictured  above.

Capsule Wardrobe.png

Key pieces   – The key pieces in your capsule wardrobe are those pieces that I call the solid pieces. These solid pieces have the ability to  completely change an outfit. This why they’re so important. In this case it would  be the blazer or duster .

Basic Pieces  – Unlike the key pieces, the basic pieces can be used to wear under a blazer or duster. This can be like a simple top.

Extra Pieces  –The extra pieces are the pieces you don’t need but can choose to add just to spike up your outfit. For example, accessories can fall under the category of extras. I  can choose to add a necklace along with my outfit but it’s definitely not a must. Same thing would go for a scarf.

So how did it work out for me????

I HATED IT!!!!!!! OMG, it was one of the worst experiences of my life!!!! Despite all of the benefits to having a capsule wardrobe it just doesn't work for me. So many days my mum would say to me, "You're wearing that AGAIN?" And I would fee bad because I felt trapped and confined to just those choices. Which is why I introduced so many options. Even then, I had to do laundry every week just so these options were available again. With my wider wardrobe, I have enough clothes to last me at least 2 months without washing, which I loooooove.

The next stressful part was having to photograph every single outfit just for this post. It's hard to take photos of your outfits for 20 days in the morning. Some mornings were ideal but most mornings I was in a mad dash to get to work on time and avoid traffic.

I also lost 2 days every week due to dress up days at work. Every Thursday was the seniors t-shirt day and Fridays usually became some fundraising dress up day. So I couldn't photograph those outfits, making this process even longer. I eventually quit after 12 outfits because I just couldn't stand to do this for one more week.

But just because I didn't enjoy it, doesn't mean you shouldn't give it a try. Don't let my experience stop you. It's definitely worth a try and it really forces you to get creative with the same pieces. What do you think? Would you ever try a capsule wardrobe? ShoeDazzle Review

Hello Lovely,

While watching TV, I would always see the commercials for ShoeDazzle.com. I liked the shoes that were advertised but I was already a JustFab subscriber and I have skipped every month since last summer due to budget issues. Earlier this month, I decided to treat myself and try ShoeDazzle to get a new variety of shoes for my birthday.

If you've never tried one of these online shoe boutiques. it usually starts with a personality quiz to personalise your boutique shopping experience. I usually dread this part of the process because it's so not diverse. Every question asked me about shoes that I would never wear. They showed me pictures of gaudy knee and thigh high boots that I would just never wear! Hello tropical island girl! When would I ever need thigh high boots with straps and studs? I basically pictured the lesser of all of the evils just to get through and look at the shoes. What I didn't realise is that they sell shoes according to which season we're in, and because it's still winter, ALL they had was boots. I'm not much of a boot girl. I used to love boots but now as a working girl in a school, there isn't much need for boots.

It was hard to find shoes that I felt would be comfortable because of the slope of the heel, but I eventually found one pair of black ankle boots that I liked and a pair of blush heels. I caught the 2 shoes for $39.95 deal couldn't wait to have my new shoes for my birthday.

After going through hell to pick up my package from the courier because they charged me $53 just to bring it in, I finally got my shoes! I tried on the black boots and instantly felt pinched. It was the right size, but the toe area is so cramped I went out and bought in soles to make it more comfortable but it actually made it worse so I just have to suffer through it.

The blush heels look great and I imagine it would be perfect for women who don't have ankles because of the shape and cut. The only downside is it's hell to get your foot into and out of it because of the lacing in the back. But once it's on, these are some of the most comfortable heels on the planet! I've worn them like five times now how much I love them!

Here are the Pro's and Con's of ShoeDazzle.com

Pro's

  1. Even though there is a monthly fee just like the other online shoe clubs, you can buy shoes whenever you want by skipping the month without accruing a monthly charge.
  2. Shoe Fashion Stylist sends you new shoe styles every month to choose from, and if you don't like the style of the shoe, you can let your stylist know and they'll create a new showroom of shoes for you.
  3. Earn points by buying shoes and telling your friends about ShoeDazzle. You get 100 points for each shoes you buy and 200 points for each friend you refer. Once you have 1000 points you can get a free pair of shoes.
  4.  Not only does ShoeDazzle sell shoes, they also sell jewellery, clothing, handbags, etc.
  5. If you don't like your shoes or if it doesn't fit, you can return the shoes for something else free of charge.

Con's

  1.  Most of the shoes are not true to size and you must order a size bigger...especially their shoes with heels. (Just like most shoes online)
  2. Not every shoe is $39.95. A lot of shoes can actually run you into $80 or more.

What to Wear Wednesday: Crazy Easy DIY Halloween Costumes

Hello Lovely,

October is here, which means it's time to start sifting through the depths of the internet to find a costume that's trendy, but still classic; crafty, but still easy to make; and unique, but still mainstream (nothing sucks more than when people don't get your costume). To ease your pain, we've put together a list of some of our favourite DIY costumes you need to steal for Halloweekend. Let the crafting begin!

Tacos are easily a food favourite, so why not dress like one? This costume is so easy to make and it's totally perfect to wear for free burrito day at Chipotle on Halloween. (If you live near a Chipotle, moment of silence for the rest of us who don't). Anyways, the taco purse is definitely my favourite part and I kind of want to just wear this everyday. That's acceptable, right?? Grab the guac and the hot sauce, and read the how-to because you're about to be one big taco! (via Aww, Sam!)

So there you have it! I hope this list helped you to decide on what you'll need to have an awesome Halloween costume this year. Sadly I'll only be wearing my costume at Trunk or Treat. Jobs really should let us adults get into the spirit of things; if I can dress like an elf at Christmas, I should be able to come as Nicki Minaj or Beyonce from the Feeling Myself music video for Halloween! No? Pushing it? Okay, maybe you're right.

Which Halloween costumes are you digging this year? Were you inspired by any of our picks? Share with us in the comment section below!

Spring Fling: Why it's the Perfect Time to Wear The Colours of The Year

Hello Lovely,

Spring is a time for new beginnings! We shed our winter clothes (and our winter weight) and start anew! It’s also the perfect time to resume my love affair with pastel colours. They’re so soft, yet bright and happy. This is why the perfect colours to rock this spring are the colours of the year, Rose Quartz and Serenity.

Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace. The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also challenges traditional perceptions of colour association. If you don’t believe me, just take a peek at these five outfit inspirations below…

1.      Not Your Boyfriend’s Jeans

I love this simple look of pairing a rose quartz jacket with boyfriend jeans. It’s so effortlessly chic!

2.      And Twirl

What’s better than a flirty skirt? This look is perfect for work and strolls in the park.

3.      One-sided

Are you just head over heels in love rose quartz? Wear it from head to toe!

4.      Easy breezy

There’s nothing simpler than a flowy maxi dress. It creates such a high impact. Just take a look at this one:

5.      Just the tip…

If you can’t fully commit to the colour, try wearing it in just your accessories!

Will you give these pastel shades a try?

Currently Craving: White Party Attire

Hello Lovely,

Last week my dad invited me to our high school's alumni association White Party, which is happening at the end of the month, at The Nassau Yacht Club. I guilt tripped a fellow graduate to go with me, so now I'm going. Only problem is, I don't own much white clothing. This is because every time I wear white, it gets dirty within an hour of me wearing it. Or worse, it gets stains on it, while simple hanging in my closet; stains that never come out so I end up having to throw them away. But I'm going to bite the bullet and look for a white dress. While I want something elegant and breathtaking, I still want to be able to dip it and do it, and pair the dress with flats in case my heels start to hurt. It would be a shame to be squeezed into something so tight I can't find room in my tummy for cocktails, or drop it like it's hot. So with that in mind, here's my inspiration:

I know they're all different, but I'm trying to keep my options open. I've already narrowed my search down to the three dress seen below:

So now that you've seen my top picks, I’d love to know…

Which of these pieces is your favourite?

XoX,
