I’ve known Ruby Forté for over 10 years! When we met we were young and bright eyed with hopes that our poetry could pave the way to riches. We met during a summer writing workshop and forged a friendship that would span a decade! We’ve supported each other’s professional endeavours so when I saw her beginning a modelling career, I just had to find out more. She seems to be everywhere now so if you haven’t heard of her or seen her yet, you’re going to want to pay attention!
1. What is your mission?
My mission is to ultimately to create wealth for myself. Whatever I do, I want to have fun while doing it. To leave a legacy because as the late Dr Myles (whose words of wisdom I’ll always cherish) “You must decide if you are going to rob the world or bless it with the rich, valuable, potent, untapped resources locked away within you.” This season has been about me and making myself better in every way so that I can present the best version of me to the world.
2. Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration from my friends, from my family, just the positive people around me that I see out there doing things. I have friends that are creative, obviously. When I see them just putting out work it kinda pushes me to start writing again, writing more regularly and being in loving relationships can to inspire you particularly with romantic poems, having a muse dear I say.
3. What does an average day look like for you?
An average for me probably consists of working out, going to the beach, keeping up with my social media, and managing the other social media pages that I do, taking a cute selfie, making a video or singing along to a cute song while driving. Maybe going on photoshoots once a week. It can comprise of getting makeup done but typically working out. I love shopping for swimsuits and cute outfits.
4. Your first fashion show was Pisces Swim in June. What about that brand sparked an interest in you and what got you into the fashion industry?
I can’t say that I’m into the fashion industry but I’ve been told that I have a good sense of fashion and dress well. I think once I decided to become more serious with modelling and add for the casting calls for things like Pisces Swim. I thought it was going to be more models for the swim line. I didn’t realise that it was for a runway show rather than still models. Had I known that it was for a runway I probably wouldn’t have gone. But it worked out and was excited to be called for the show.
5. What is your brand about?
A sexy and smart girl next door who is all about positivity, self-love and growth.
6. What is your proudest accomplishment thus far?
I’m kind of hard on myself to be honest. Although I’ve done some pretty cool things, it’s not enough. I guess finishing college and coming back and going back into college. I’m grateful to have gotten that behind me because there were some really though moments. There are times I beat myself up and believe I could have done better than I did. I’m always looking at what’s the next thing I can do and accomplish.
7. Teacher, model, poet and business management; if you could only do one for the rest of your life, which would it be?
If I had to choose between teacher, model, poet or business manager and could only do one for the rest of my life what would it be? That’s a tough question because I enjoy doing o much. I don’t actually ever want to do one thing because I don’t want to be boxed in or known for one thing. If there was one thing that I would choose it would have to be between modelling and photography. But now I would have to say that I am becoming more passionate about poetry. I recently read a quote that said “find three hobbies, one that let’s you be creative; one that keeps you healthy, and one that makes you money.” And when I think about it modelling can be that thing.
8. What is something you want to accomplish?
Career wise, I would like to have a few businesses, and create wealth. I would like to publish some books. Although modelling is hobby for me I wouldn’t mind being in a magazine or video. Also it would be really cool to produce and/or direct a movie or to win a Nobel Prize 🤷🏽♀️ Hey a girl can dream.
9. Is there anyone in the industry you're dying to collab with?
As far as modelling, I’ve made it my business to work with progressive people. It would be nice to work with a Bahamian fashion designer like Theodore Elyett modelling swimwear. It would be cool to see how he would dress me since he particularly features skinnier women.
10. What do you want people to remember about you?
My personality, my principles and what I stood for. I want people to remember that I’m a positive and progressive person.Ruby Forte symbolises something that is extremely precious, priceless and strong. “Yes I am beautiful but beauty will fade. I want to be remembered for who I am more so than how I look.” “Three words should come to mind when you think of me: Smart. Strong. Sweet”
* A HUUUUUUUGE shoutout to my boyfriend of Fluid Optics for capturing these photos for me! *
