Long Island Shandy

Hello Lovely,

I can't believe it's officially Summer! The temperatures have climbed very quickly giving me massive sinus headaches to deal with while I adjust. Ugh! Why can't I be normal? Don't get me wrong, I love living on an island, but the heat can get so intense. So it's really important to stay hydrated. And what better way to stay hydrated during the summer is with a shandy? Now I'm aware that a lot of people still don't know what a shandy is. A shandy is literally just beer and lemonade. It's also known as a radler. Normally we say these drinks are for punks, but once you see what goes into this drink, I think you'll change your mind.

I was inspired to make this drink after having a really hard week at work where I kept having fall outs from one task. I actually cried and threw a mini tantrum in my bed from how stressed I was that nothing I did could fix this problem. So to chill out, I decided to get crafty in the kitchen. I wasn't sure exactly what I was going to do. At first I wanted to make a colourful fruit filled cocktail and I honestly bought the ingredients to make it. But once I got home, my inspiration changed and I just wanted something harder. I had some apple juice and vodka on hand, and I always have gin (I loooove my gin) so I started mixing. When I was done, I realised that I had pretty much made a cross between a long island iced tea and a shandy. I know long island iced teas use Coke soda, but I do not have the time to get into how much I hate Coke soda and wouldn't even give it to an enemy to drink. Also I'm on a super strict diet (okay I exaggerate a bit on how strict it is, since I'm clearly drinking this - don't judge me). It was awesome! I instantly felt cool and relaxed and decided that my work problems would have to wait until I returned to work on Monday. This is the perfect weekend drink. I even got a little fancy and garnished it with spring onions - It was aesthetically pleasing and it helped to cut a bit of the natural sweetness from the apple juice. So if you're looking for the perfect summer drink to cool off with, get the recipe below! It doesn't get any better than the holy matrimony of long island iced tea and shandy!

Remember to always drink responsibly. You don't have to be boujee like me with the garnish but try a lemon wedge as well. Treat yourself! Safe to say, this just may become my new favourite summer cocktail. Do you have a go to summer drink?
