Mocha Protein Shake

Hello Lovely,

I LOVE coffee! I drink a cup of coffee every day! EVERY DAY! One of the selling points of my church is that they give away free coffee every Sunday and I can drink it during service. I even started making ice coffee on Saturdays to drink at home. But a lot of health junkies don’t drink coffee because it can be considered acidic. (Meaning that it throws your body’s pH levels off and we're supposed to try to be as alkaline as possible). Coffee, however, does have a bunch of antioxidants in it and therefore (in moderation and without all the added sugar and cream) can be beneficial to your health and body. Despite my acid reflux, I still take my coffee with 2 sugars and cream. And usually some bougie additive like a flavour syrup or flavoured creamer.

While I haven't gotten to the point of "drinking breakfast" you could use this as a meal replacement depending on how much protein powder you use. I'm a hypochondriac and still unsure on how to use protein powder because I know I don't get to exercise throughout the day like I should and if it's one thing I learned in high school science, it's that protein gets converted to energy in the body but unused protein becomes stored fat. Hence the cycle of my hypochondria.

Cafe Mocha Protein Shake

 

Yield: 1 smoothie

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 scoop vanilla shakeology or protein powder
  • 6oz brewed cold coffee
  • 6oz lactose free milk (ex: Lactaid, soy or almond milk)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar (optional but sugar is never an option for me)
  • Ice to taste

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients into a blender and blend on high until desired consistency is reached.
