I’m so excited for this weekend because there’s so much happening. Not only is it Carnival Weekend, it’s also Cinco De Mayo on Sunday! I’m kicking off this weekend with Insomnia tonight. The artists lined up for tonight is Bunji Garlin, Kes the Band, Patrice Roberts, Dexta Daps, Voice, Sketch Carey, Rik Carey and Benji. It’s going to be sheer madness so I’m taking a nap immediately after work to rest up since I know Bunji Garlin won’t hit the stage until about 2 am. I’m not going to the saturday night event: Amnesia because I don’t feel like standing through a bunch of artists I don’t really care for just to listen to Machel for the 3rd year in a row. Don’t get me wrong, I love Machel, but I really think it’s time we get a new Carnival headliner just to mix things up a bit, you know. I’m also not doing the road march because I could not fathom spending a minimum of $300 on a costume that I can only wear once. (I barely wanted to spend $50 on my Wonder Woman costume for my school’s Christmas play). But that’s not all I’m doing this weekend!
Sunday is Cinco do Mayo and my friends are of course celebrating as usual. For Cinco De Mayo, we’re having a gathering by my best friend Telia (our resident Mexican in the group. She’s not actually Mexican but we just love calling her tha0)t. We’re having tacos, quesadillas, chips and dips, nachos and LOTS of alcohol. I’m experimenting with a new margarita from Vintage Kitty, called the Orange Turmeric Margarita. Turmeric can be very potent but I’m excited to see how I can turn this into everyone’s new favourite drink.
I’m also boozing it up with these irresistible Margarita Cupcakes! Dessert is always the afterthought of Cinco de Mayo. Tacos and guac are of utmost importance, I get it. As are the margaritas. But after all the salty snacks (and drinks), sweets are definitely in order. I’m hoping these boozy cupcakes keep the fiesta going.
Of course there will be games. I love playing What do You Meme because my friends can be pretty savage so the responses are hilarious! You have to check out this game and play this at your next function. CAUTION: This game is not for the uptight, overly religious, humourless people who are out of touch with pop culture. If they blush at a caption card, they probably shouldn’t play the game.

On November 22, Cardell Mcclam Men & Women Fashion Brand & Cardellicious "The Full Figured Fashion Brand of the Bahamas" will showcase its NEW 2019 Fashion Collections, under the theme, "The Feast: FRIDA KAHLO" at the Courtyard by Marriott Nassau Downtown/Junkanoo Beach.
This past Sunday, Cardell and his team invited me to their exclusive Press Party to highlight some of the makeup and hair we’ll see on the runway next Thursday. Check out the highlights below, including an exclusive interview with the designer himself!
Before I go, I want to wish a VERY VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my best friend (one of the greatest friends anyone could ask for), Doran!
This weekend was a much needed fun break. Everything around me had become so negative I really needed a night out with the girls enjoying my favourite soca artists. I started the weekend by finally watching Avengers: Infinity War with my dad. We always watch Marvel and Star Wars movies together and it's usually opening day but lately our schedules haven't quite lined up for us to be able to do that. I loved the movie but don't worry, you won't find any spoilers from me. I hate spoilers.
Saturday wasn't off to a good start for me. Even though I got to take my niece out, my mum and I got a late start on the errands we needed to run, and while out, my pants randomly ripped straight down the middle. At first I was really annoyed and embarrassed but then I decided I am too old to let this be a problem and I reframed it as my butt is getting so big it ripped the pants.😜 I was on a rampage to get something to eat but you know how it is when you're hungry but you don't know what you want to eat? And then everywhere we went was closed. I finally settled on Solomon's Fresh Market but was annoyed to pay $9 for two pieces of macaroni and some carrots and cauliflower. We still didn't get to finish all of our errands we set out to do, but at least the day was beginning to look better.
I got dressed and headed over to Krista so that we could carpool for Carnival. I was really excited to see Machel again (I call him my Trini baby daddy 😍), as well as the plethora of performers that night. I didn't do the Road March even though I really wanted to because I just can't spend over $200 on a costume I can only wear once. But hopefully next year, something will work out.
We upgraded our tickets to VIP to be closer to the stage. I missed Rik Carey but we were just in time for Dyson Knight and Wendi. To me, they are just the most adorable power couple. Their love and support for one another is super cute and they're both very talented and experienced artists. Along with other artists, I think they play a role in making Bahamian music fun again for young people. There were also performances from Ricardo Dru, Shurwayne Winchester, Mr. Vegas, Dj Khaled, Movado and Machel Montano with special guest appearances from Patrick Anthony - The Hype Man, International Stephen, DJ Overdose, and The Wassi One.
The performances were too amazing to ever forget! At times, with being so close to the stage ,my left eardrum felt like it was going to explode; but even my injured knee was not going to stop me from jumping and whining. Here are just a few highlights from the night's festivities.
I really enjoyed the Carnival Experience. It's sad that there are still so many people against such a fun experience just because it's not our culture. We can't want to be considered West Indian/Caribbean but reject aspects of the culture.
In addition to the concert, I finally took some time out to treat a few skin imperfections starting with teabags under the eyes to treat darkness and under eye puffiness. Now if only I can maintain healthy self-care while trying to be productive and seeking to create a social life 😂. How was your weekend? Did you attend any of the Carnival events?
Many people have mixed feelings about Valentine’s Day. For some, the day creates an excuse to go on a romantic date with a significant other, exchange gifts and eat a lot of chocolate. For others, it’s a dreaded commercial holiday that highlights their single status. Whether you plan to celebrate Valentine's Day or not, there’s no reason you can’t celebrate the less controversial Galentine’s Day with your girls!Read More
Yesterday was a much needed holiday. I know school just re-opened last week, but after threatening to call a child's mother just to get him to stop talking back to me, I think I needed a quick recharge. The holiday we celebrated was Majority Rule Day. Majority Rule Day became a public holiday in 2014. It commemorates The Bahamas gaining majority rule for the first time on January 10, 1967, symbolising the promise of equality, a level playing field, and fair play for all Bahamians.
To celebrate the holiday I got three of my girlfriends together for a painting party. I started things off by serving brunch (my now famous Banana Nut Pancakes and coffee with a custom made Coffee Creamer).
We didn't get to paint half the stuff I had planned for us but we still had fun regardless. None of my friends are really "artistic" so we had a little competition to see whose own would look the most like our inspiration. While three of us really tried, Krista gave up very early and did her own design.
This is the inspiration photo. We all agreed Meghan's own looked the nicest.
We had so much fun figuring the patterns out. I tried to make mine look exactly like the original but throughout the process realised that I was putting way too much pressure on myself and I should just enjoy whatever I create. It definitely wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to copy this design, and with more practise I think I can get really good at it. I found and online class for painting patterns and designs so I can't wait to get started on that and show you what I create.
After my friends left I made another picture, this time with markers instead of paint. This was the inspiration photo and beneath that is what I created.
I really like this painting, drawing thing. I used to draw a lot in high school but that skill got put on the back burner as I had to prioritise studying and writing papers. Now I'm getting back into doodling and it is so therapeutic!
How did you spend the holiday? Did you do anything with family or friends? Do you like to doodle and create artwork? Share your reactions and thoughts in the comment section below.

The holidays are coming up and that always puts me in the mood for a few things. Today we're talking about Holiday Greeting Cards! I bet you didn't know before I started this blog, I actually had a small business making handmade greeting cards for special occasions! Many years ago, I got into greeting cards with my mum when we took classes on how to make your own. We actually still have some because we just couldn't bear with part with our beautiful creations.

I've referred a friend to them for first birthday invitation and with all of the parties coming up you should check them out for the perfect party invitation. There's even quincenera invitations. THIS WEEKEND WAS LIT!!!!!! I had the best weekend of my life! I went to a concert with two close friends of mine on Cino de Mayo for Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival. We saw a lot of amazing artists like Visage, Bunji Garlin, Faye Ann Lyons and most importantly MACHEL MONTANO! That's right folks. I FINALLY got to see the lengendary man in the flesh! And he is just as sexy as ever!
There was a moment where I doubted if I would actually get to or not after the rain came down. But I was determined! I stood in the rain during and after Bunji and Faye's performance waiting. And guess what, they shut down the whole thing. Lights turned off, speakers, lights and other equiment was covered and sheltered from the rain and most of the crowd scattered. Some people went home, but again, I was determined. I waited under a tent. Just waited. Machel couldn't let me know. I knew he would somehow sense my desire to see him just once in concert (let me know if I'm getting overly dramatic with this).
And after about 10 minutes of waiting, Bodine Johnson the host came back out and said, "Are you guys ready for Machel? I NEVER RAN SO FAST IN MY LIFE! I actually left my friends behind and ran off in one direction while they went in another. I sprinted to the front and witnessed what I believe to be a miracle (again let me know if I'm getting overly dramatic with this).
There is something so liberating about dancing in the rain! I enjoyed every minute of it. Singing and chanting with the crowd awoke a spirit of fun in me that had been surpressed by the burdens of adulthood.
I rested on Saturday, then Sunday was my Cinco de Mayo dinner with my best friends. We turned up with sangria, margaritas, nachos and great music! My best friends are like family to me so it's always a good time when we're together. We played with the Charades and Dinner Party Conversation Cards and heard some really awkward answers that'll make anyone blush. The night totally made up for my failed attempt to catch a beach soccer game this weekend, but all in all, this was definitely the best weekend ever!
It's Cinco de Mayo!!!!!! I'm not sure if I've ever been so happy for an excuse to cut loose, drink and party with friends. This weekend is going to be hectic but totally a blast! Tonight is night 2 of the Bahamas Junkanoo Carnival concerts and my favourite Soca artist (AKA my Trinidadian baby daddy) is performing: Machel Montano! Can you believe that I have never seen him live in concert? It saddens me to admit that. That's why I HAVE to fix it! I will be sorely disappointed if I miss my chance again.
So because the concert is tonight, which clearly takes priority, my Cinco de mayo party with friends is this Sunday. We're so excited! Even though we just had a party two nights ago, we're really going to get down this Sunday. To make this more interesting, I came up with these dinner party cards. It's a set of 20 cards: 12 are for charades and 8 are conversation questions. Charades and dinner conversation starter cards are simple to print, cut and have handy for any meal!
Whether you’re hosting a dinner party with friends or finally sitting down to a family meal after a less-than-sober Cinco de Mayo, these free printable charades and conversations starters are perfect! Download your free printable here.
