The Best Gift For A Literary Lover In Your Life

Hello Lovely,

I know I can be pretty boujee at times but now you guys are going to think that I’m pushing it. I love trying new products and recommending them to you guys, and occasionally I stumble upon a product I’ve never heard of. Sometimes I wait to share things with you because I want to ensure consistent good service before I recommend the company. I should let you guys know that even though this is a paid promotion, all opinions are completely mine and I don’t HAVE to give a positive report.

Earlier this month Literary Book Gifts reached out to me to promote their writing gloves. Now forgive me, but I had heard of driving gloves before, but never writing gloves. I thought, are these some kind of special glove that somehow improves your handwriting? Or is it just some fancy thing to wear to look extra boujee when you write? Apparently writing gloves actually serve a purpose outside of aesthetics. They work essentially as hand warmers and that makes a lot of sense.

Sometimes my boyfriends house is cold with the AC on, so I wrap up extra tight at night. Often when I can’t sleep, I want to reach for my phone, but I don’t want to remove my hands from the warm covers. Writing gloves are basically socks for your hands, and I know that’s probably underselling it. These writing gloves are fingerless (like most). They made out of a soft cashmere knit so these gloves are perfect for handwriting, typing, touch screens, and crafting. Specifically the gloves are made of a breathable knit of about 35% cashmere wool, with a blend of cotton, polyester, and microfiber for durability. They’re available in 13 different colours including Blush Pink (pictured), white, electric blue, violet, heather purple/grey,/navy blue and charcoal just to name a few.

I wore these gloves all day while typing on my computer and scrolling through various apps on my phone. Not only did it successfully keep my hands warm, but I also felt support for my wrist, which is super important since I have carpal tunnel.

I Bought a Mattress Online and Here's What Happened

Hello lovely,

There are a lot of major milestones in adulthood: completing college, buying your own car, starting your dream job, and oddly enough, buying furniture. Let me tell you guys how serious this was for me. I have had the SAME mattress since coming out of the crib. Let that sink in for a minute. It’s not that I didn’t I never thought to change it. I honestly never had the opportunity. For a long time I lived in Florida and even when I came back, I wasn’t trying to invest in anything, because I was always looking for my next escape. But I’ve been home for 6 years now and I just started another 2 year contract as a school counsellor, so I figured I might as well get comfortable. Last year I got a new bed (do you know how embarrassing it is to bring a guy back to a four poster bed in your mum’s house at nearly 30). So last month I began my search for a new mattress.

I went to two local furniture stores whose prices ranged from $400-$800 for twin mattresses. I called another and twin mattresses went up to $1000! I was ready to give up hope until leaving one of the stores and trying one more mattress. It was the perfect fit. I felt like Goldilocks (minus the white privilege). When the salesperson told me the price, I nearly leapt through the wall. I did not have $800 to spend on a mattress. I felt defeated. On a whim, I decided to check online.

Enter the Zinus mattress:  one of the most popular memory foam options on Amazon (very reasonable price, lots of good reviews) so I was excited to try it for myself. .Like a lot of people, I wanted to get a memory foam mattress but I’m on a tight budget. The mattress layers include: 2 inches Memory Foam, 2 inches Pressure Relieving Comfort Foam, and 4 inches High-density Base Support Foam. Now priced at $119, I paid $149. I couldn’t believe a mattress could cost so little. Even with the fees associated with importing a mattress (100% in customs fees plus VAT) I still saved money by buying a mattress online. But was it worth it?

Here’s Everything You Need to Know About Buying a Mattress Online

  • Before buying, make sure you’ll have all the necessary items like a proper bed frame and sheets that fit. I knew that I needed an 8 inch mattress because that’s what my last one was and I was not about to buy new sheets.

  • You can’t try before you buy with many online mattresses so pay attention to the reviews. Some allow free returns so find that out before you buy.

  • Many memory foam, hybrid, or latex mattresses arrive compressed and vacuum-sealed in a box. As a result, the mattress may take a few days to fully expand to its full shape and be comfortable to sleep on. Also, keeping the mattress sealed for longer than it should be can permanently destroy the foam’s contouring abilities. I didn’t know it’s supposed to be opened within 72 hours. When we have to wait for third party couriers to bring our stuff on the island, it could take a week to receive it after the initial delivery. I had to sleep with my mum the night we opened my mattress to allow it to fully expand.

  • Zinus first started in 2004 in Seoul and now operates bi coastal US distribution centres.

  • Try to avoid using a knife when opening the box because you don’t want to puncture the mattress.

  • The box isn’t very heavy because the mattress is vacuum-sealed.

  • Getting the mattress out of the box is the easy part.

  • Taking the mattress out of the bag so that you can unfold it is the hard part. We tried rolling it down and it would not budge, so eventually we carefully ran down the seam of the bag with a scissors until the mattress sprang free.

  • I loved the cards that came tucked into the mattress. The personal touch was so simple but so thoughtful.

  • Once you take the plastic off, the mattress will immediately begin to inflate. IMMEDIATELY! You may think it’s ready within a few minutes but let it rest overnight.

  • My mattress is SUPER plump (more than I expected) but after a week, there’s an indentation in the middle of the bed where I sleep in the same position every night.

  • The edge of the mattress is the softest. It’s taken my back a few days to adjust to the new mattress as some days I would wake up feeling a little sore, but it’s getting better each night.

Overall, I’m glad I bought my mattress online. I saved over $400 on my memory foam mattress and sleeping on it has been really nice. It’s not that much of a hassle to set up so this purchase was totally worth it! If you want to get your own, you can check it out at the link below and read more reviews for yourself.

Floral Obsession: Why You Need to Get Your Next Order of Flowers From ThermaLeaf®

Hello Lovely,

I recently received an order of silk flowers from ThermaLeaf® so I have to share my experience with you. Normally I don't like silk flowers, because they always look fake and I just don't like how they feel. But I do love looking at flowers. My favourite flowers are hydrangeas. There's just something so pretty about them and most people don't think about when thinking about flowers. Most women like roses, or lilies or orchids. But I love hydrangeas. So when ThermaLeaf® reached out to me, I immediately looked for hydrangeas and found the most beautiful pink hydrangeas.

ThermaLeaf® provides wonderful, realistic silk flowers and plants at fairly competitive prices. I was impressed by the companies claim to be the safest artificial foliage in the industry because all of their plants and flowers are fire retardant. If you didn't know, artificial foliage branches are made from plastic and polyester fabric. So when ignited, faux plants can spread a fire quickly and the plastic can produce a large amount of deadly smoke.

When I got the flowers, I was genuinely impressed with how realistic they flowers look, down to the leaves. They could easily be mistaken for real flowers. ThermaLeaf® has so many different plants for you to choose from. With standard shipping speed you can expect to get your order within a week or at least less than 2 weeks. I love leaving my flowers on display. It's even better that they're fake because my cats can't eat it (seriously, why do cats like to eat flowers). Check out this article for the best advice on maintaining your silk flowers.

Why Is The New Way To Order Groceries

2018-05-18 (1).png

Hello Lovely,

Last week I received my first order from a relatively new site called Brandless. I was watching TV the week before and saw a commercial for the website advertising many gluten free and vegan grocery items. I was intrigued but given the natural sceptic that I am, I was like, "That's nice. Now how much?" Can you imagine my surprise at the end of the commercial when they said everything is just $3?!?!?!?!?!? I almost did a back flip off my bed to grab my laptop! I thought, this has to be a scheme. It's probably an introductory price or something. NOPE! They meant it!

While I searched their site, I found out that they're based in San Francisco and Minneapolis and got started July 11, 2017. Brandless offers a unique selection of food and household items. I say unique because none of it is name brand. That's right, if you haven't figured out by the name of the company yet, Brandless sells non name brand items. They're simple clean products that are practically being sold at cost! Brandless is trying to eliminate BrandTax™ (the hidden costs you pay for a national brand) once and for all.

So what did I order? I'm glad you asked!

Now let me break down this order for ya!

I loved everything I got! I made the blueberry muffins the very next day. They were great! My co-workers couldn't believe it was gluten free. I definitely want to try making own using a flour alternative I actually like (so far I've tried spelt, but I really don't like it). The maple syrup isn't think like most, but it does have a smooth and light taste. I made the soup the very next night and added a little pasta and strips of leftover chicken breasts with some mushrooms. I could eat that almost every night!

I went through the snacks over the course of a week (no shame) and I couldn't believe they were healthy. I was mad when I had to share my maple twists with my students. The oat and cranberry crisps have a genuine real flavour (nothing artificial there) and the sweet potato crisps were a great savoury sweet snack that made a field trip I had to supervise much more bearable.

I use the face lotion every day but my skin is taking awhile to adjust to it. Next time I order, I'm going to try the toner as well.

What The Heck is Old English Co and Should You Shop There?

Hello Lovely,

This is a sponsored post by Old English Co. I received these products for free in exchange for my honest opinion.

Last week I received an order from Old English Co. You're probably wondering who that is. Well Old English Co is a stationery and giftware brand creating beautiful, hand-lettered products. Based out of Stamford, England, the company sells numerous items from Greeting Cards, Stationary, Accessories, Coasters and Placemats, Linen and more.

Old English.png

I was surprised at how quickly the package arrived considering it came from England. I've waited up to a month for royal mail so the speediness was a plus for me. The box came a little damaged, which had me worried because of the mug on the inside. But the packaging was great so nothing on the inside was affected, except the notebook.

I love my new mug! You're going to see it in a lot of posts real soon because I can't wait to use it as a prop. It's really short and kind of reminds me a tin cup, but it can still break, so I'll definitely be careful when using it. I wore the pin the day after getting it, but it's so small, I had to go up real close to my co-workers for them to see it. Everyone thought it was funny and totally suits my personality. My only problem is the rubber backing that should make things easier but it's really hard to get off and I had to use my teeth, which looks really awkward, trust me.

Then it was the notebook. I'm a sucker for a notebook or mug with a cute design or cheeky saying. I've always wondered what A4 looks like but never really saw it up close. They're slightly longer than a letter size, but shorter than a legal size.  I love the look and feel of the notebook, but it did come slightly bent. If anyone knows how much I cherish books, they would understand why this is a problem for me. I don't open books up very far when reading them to prevent bending and damage to the spine (I'm weird like that). The notebook is lined so I'm not entirely sure what I'll use it for. I'm trying to get back into drawing and would love to try my hand at painting so I would've liked to use this for it, but it is lined so that may be a problem. I'll figure it out.

I love the pillowcases as well. They're made from a high-quality cotton so I understand why they're £20 for two. These remind me so much of my unicorn pillowcases, and have really inspired me to change up my linens this summer. I feel like that's a sign of old age. I'm actually excited about buying new bed sheets and towels. I'm also going to need two new pillows because these two are WAY past their prime.

Overall, I find the items to be a little pricey, especially when you do the conversion from GBP to USD, or whatever currency you use. I love my items, but I also would've loved if the pin and the mug were cheaper as I would never personally spend that much of these kind of items. Then again, I am frugal.

So what do you think? Would you try shopping at Old English? Share your reactions to my haul in the comment section below!

Is Randomise The New Party Game?

Hello Lovely,

I'm here with another product review for you guys. The game is called Randomise and it is offered by a UK company.

What is Randomise?

In this game, players are given random identities – such as a dizzy robot bungee jumping,  a confused octopus eating spaghetti or a disguised giraffe playing air guitar – and can choose whether to act, describe or draw their identity for their team mates to guess. The rules are simple, but with more than a million random identity combinations possible, every game is different…

How to play

Split into two teams and alternate taking turns. When it is your turn, you must declare whether you are going for an EASY or HARD challenge, and whether you are going to DESCRIBE, ACT or DRAW your way to victory. Then select a card from each of the three piles of cards (A, B and C). The opposing team will then give you three random numbers from 1 to 3 (eg. ‘3,1,2’).Look at the words on the cards that match these numbers to discover your new identity. Card A will always describe you (eg. Happy, Hairy, Vain), card B will tell you what you are (eg. Octopus, Astronaut, Lion) and card C will tell you what you are doing (eg. Eating spaghetti, Playing football, Baking a cake).

When you are ready, the opposing team will get ready to time your turn, and you will have 30, 60 or 90 seconds to reveal yourself:

  • DESCRIBE – You have 30 seconds to use your voice to communicate your identity. You can’t say any of the words on your cards or use rhyming words or letters to give clues.
  • ACT – You have 60 seconds to use your body to communicate your identity. You can’t make any noises, point or use any props.
  • DRAW – You have 90 seconds to use your artistic skills to communicate the phrase. You can’t draw any letters or numbers.

Your team can shout out as many guesses as they like. The aim is to get them to shout out your complete identity before your time is up. Scoring works as follows:

  • ALL LEVELS – You get 1 point for every card your team successfully guesses (max 3 per turn)
  • EASY turns – You get 1 bonus point if your team shouts out your full identity before your turn is up – eg. ‘Nervous mole eating spaghetti’
  • HARD turns – You get 3 bonus points if your team shouts out your full identity.

Stealing bonus points

If your team doesn’t shout out your full identity before the time is up, the opposing team has a chance to steal the bonus points. They can confer, and then have one guess at your full identity. If correct, they steal the bonus points (1 or 3 depending on difficulty level).

Winning the game

The first team to reach 30 points claims victory! But if this team started, then the opposing team will have one turn to equalise/steal the victory. In the case of a draw, you can play sudden death, awarding victory as soon as one team takes the lead after both teams have taken a turn.

When I first played Randomise, it was with my students at school. Despite the fact that the game is designed for kids, they did not understand the game at all. No matter how many times I explained it, my kids from grades 3-6 just couldn't get it. I realised the biggest issue was they didn't know what some of the words meant, like goth and  kingfisher because these are words we don't use every day in our vernacular. So i tried it with my teens during one of our group therapy sessions and they thought it was hilarious! It was a great social skill builder to help them form stronger bonds. But when I tried this game with my girlfriends at my Galentine's Day party, they did not enjoy the game at all. They found the instructions to be confusing, a little boring and truthfully we really only lasted about four rounds. See for yourself below

So is this a good party game? It depends on who's playing. Teens really seem to enjoy it, but kids and adults seem confused by the antics. I would suggest using this game as a part of play therapy and even with special needs kids if they're up for the challenge. It's a great game to let yourself go and be silly for a moment and I plan on using it more in a group therapy context. If you want to buy a copy of this game, you can get it here for only £11.40!

Exclusive Deal + Free Shipping on All Wall Murals & Canvas Prints at Photowall

Hello Lovely,

I'm so excited to share this exclusive deal with you! I recently received one of the best Christmas gifts in the mail from my new favourite company! Photowall is a company based in Sweden that provides amazing wall mural and canvas prints. All of their wall murals and canvas prints are environmentally friendly, fire-retardant in accordance with Swedish standards and do not fade in sunlight. Today I'm giving you an exclusive 20% discount on all prints and free shipping on your print to the US, UK and other EU countries! You can chose to use one of their photos or one of your own. I chose to use the photo of when I was at Stonehenge because my first choice of the skyline featuring Big Ben and the London Eye wouldn't work with the crop feature. I chose this photo because not only am I standing in front of one of the most mythical creations on the planet, but that day almost didn't happen because my bus pass didn't have enough money and I couldn't swipe your credit card to top it up. With the help of a generous bus driver who let me ride back home for free so I could swap passes with my friend I was able to get to the tour with only two minutes to spare! It was one of the luckiest moments of my life.

This is my print here!

I was so excited when I saw it! I couldn't believe what an amazing job Photowall did with my photo. My photo was 4 x 3 ft, which is the largest size offered. I didn't expect it to be so big, so I'm still looking for a place to hang it, but it is a very impressive print. The colours popped so well. Even the assembly was a piece of cake. No tools required at all.

So how does it work?

You can choose any one of the existing canvas prints and wall murals featuring classic motifs divided into various categories, including, for example, citiesforestsskiesanimalsmapsbeaches, and much much more. All canvas prints can be re-sized and ordered with or without tenter. Prints can even be sorted  by room type to help you find the right print for a specific room. If you have your own image, perhaps a photo you’ve taken, a picture you’ve found online or an illustration, Photowall can turn it into a canvas print or wall mural of any size for you! You can order your canvas print with or without their do-it-yourself tenter frame. The frame is 29 mm thick.

You decide what kind of edge you would like. You can choose white, black or printed. A printed edge means the design continues onto the edges. The edge is the part of the canvas that covers the frame around the side of the print. The edge is 29 mm wide and is added onto the dimensions you specify in your order. For example, if you order a print 100 cm x 100 cm, the canvas will be 106 cm x 106 cm including the edge.

Even the frame is easy to put together. I thought I would've needed tools like a hammer, nails and a staple gun, but the frame comes with it's own screws that are easy to twist and turn in place. Then, there's no need for a staple gun to adhere the canvas to the frame because the frame has a tape that peels off to reveal a sticky surface the canvas can easily be adhered to. See?

It's as simple as that!

When you go to Photowall to place your order, don't forget to use my exclusive code: OliviaRussellCampaign2017 so you can get 20% your order. It's only available for 30 days so you have to act fast! And remember free (and FAST) shipping to the US, UK and all other countries in the EU. What are you waiting on?
