Weekend Diaries: Bahamas Carnival 2018

Hello Lovely,

This weekend was a much needed fun break. Everything around me had become so negative I really needed a night out with the girls enjoying my favourite soca artists. I started the weekend by finally watching Avengers: Infinity War with my dad. We always watch Marvel and Star Wars movies together and it's usually opening day but lately our schedules haven't quite lined up for us to be able to do that. I loved the movie but don't worry, you won't find any spoilers from me. I hate spoilers.

Saturday wasn't off to a good start for me. Even though I got to take my niece out,  my mum and I got a late start on the errands we needed to run, and while out, my pants randomly ripped straight down the middle. At first I was really annoyed and embarrassed but then I decided I am too old to let this be a problem and I reframed it as my butt is getting so big it ripped the pants.😜 I was on a rampage to get something to eat but you know how it is when you're hungry but you don't know what you want to eat? And then everywhere we went was closed. I finally settled on Solomon's Fresh Market but was annoyed to pay $9 for two pieces of macaroni and some carrots and cauliflower. We still didn't get to finish all of our errands we set out to do, but at least the day was beginning to look better.

I got dressed and headed over to Krista so that we could carpool for Carnival. I was really excited to see Machel again (I call him my Trini baby daddy 😍), as well as the plethora of performers that night. I didn't do the Road March even though I really wanted to because I just can't spend over $200 on a costume I can only wear once. But hopefully next year, something will work out.

We upgraded our tickets to VIP to be closer to the stage. I missed Rik Carey but we were just in time for Dyson Knight and Wendi. To me, they are just the most adorable power couple. Their love and support for one another is super cute and they're both very talented and experienced artists. Along with other artists, I think they play a role in making Bahamian music fun again for young people. There were also performances from Ricardo Dru, Shurwayne Winchester, Mr. Vegas, Dj Khaled, Movado and Machel Montano with special guest appearances from Patrick Anthony - The Hype Man, International Stephen, DJ Overdose, and The Wassi One.

The performances were too amazing to ever forget! At times, with being so close to the stage ,my left eardrum felt like it was going to explode; but even my injured knee was not going to stop me from jumping and whining. Here are just a few highlights from the night's festivities.

I really enjoyed the Carnival Experience. It's sad that there are still so many people against such a fun experience just because it's not our culture. We can't want to be considered West Indian/Caribbean but reject aspects of the culture.

In addition to the concert, I finally took some time out to treat a few skin imperfections starting with teabags under the eyes to treat darkness and under eye puffiness. Now if only I can maintain healthy self-care while trying to be productive and seeking to create a social life 😂. How was your weekend? Did you attend any of the Carnival events?
